July 12th Express Entry Draw Decreases CRS Cut-off Threshold

In the Express Entry draw that was held on July 12, the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) cut-off went down to 440 points. This means that all the candidates in the Express Entry pool who scored 440 or more points in the CRS were issued the Invitation to Apply (ITA).

A total number of 3,202 candidates have been invited to apply for permanent residency of Canada.

There has been a decrease of nine points since the previous draw which was carried out on June 28th.

After changes were made tot he CRS last month, this is the second draw that has taken place since then.

After the changes, and as was mentioned by WWICS sometime back, a temporary rise in the CRS cut off threshold was expected. This is considering the fact that there has been an increase in score of some candidates who had siblings living in Canada and of those who had French proficiency.

There was another reason attributed to this temporary rise in cut-off of Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) and that is there has been a long gap between the draws that took place last month.

The cut-off threshold has been higher than the historic low of 413 points and beyond. Candidates who are already in the pool should not feel disheartened as the cut-off threshold in indeed decreased in the Express Entry draw that took place this time.

It should also be noted that slightly less Invitation to Apply (ITA) have been issued this time as compared to previous draw.

After the July 12th draw, a total number of 54,487 Invitation to Apply (ITA) have been issued till now for the year 2017. This number is much higher as compared to the whole of previous year.

According to Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC), Express Entry is clearly the main driver of the economic immigration to Canada.

Prince Edward Island PNP Offers Unique Opportunity for Express Entry Candidates

Prince Edward Island PNP Offers Unique Opportunity for Express Entry Candidates

The Prince Edward Island Provincial Nominee Program (PEI PNP) reopened recently and offered a unique immigration option to aspiring immigrants who had submitted their application in the federal Express Entry pool.

New Expression of Interest (EOIs) had not been accepted by the government of PEI for this stream since late 2016. However, EOIs are once again been accepted for PEI PNP.

The Express Entry stream of PEI is more improved now, which means candidates have the chance to get 600 Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) points if they are able to get a nomination certificate. In such a case, their chances of being picked up for receiving the Invitation to Apply (ITA) increases considerably.

What is the Working of PEI PNP?

When compared with other PNP streams in the Express Entry system, the PEI PNP can be considered more of an outlier.

First distinctive feature of this is that this program does not work on points based system. Any aspiring immigrants who have been successful in submitting a profile in the Express Entry system will also be eligible for making an Expression of Interest under the Prince Edward Island Express Entry stream.

There is an exception on international graduates who are working in Prince Edward Island on the basis of Post-Graduate Work Permit. These types of candidates should have a minimum of four months of full-time work experience with their employer in PEI.

Another distinctive feature of this program is that an applicant is not required to submit any application fee. Moreover, the process of submitting the application is quite simple. The application form contains just one page asking only simple questions and a question that asks ‘Why would you like to immigrate to Prince Edward Island?’

How to Get Nominated?

An aspiring immigrant who wants to apply for PEI PNP Express Entry stream must fulfill the following requirements:

·         Fulfill the eligibility requirement for at least one immigration programs from the federal government:

  • o   Federal Skilled Trades Class
  • o   Federal Skilled Worker Class or
  • o   Canadian Experience Class

·         Create a profile for federal Express Entry system

A candidate should however remember that submitting an EOI is different from submitting an application for the program. A candidate needs to be selected before he or she can submit the application for the program.
Although, PEI PNP does not use point system, but selection of candidates is not done randomly. This is something which can be considered as semi-transparent.

Donald Trump’s Immigration Plans May Stall His Promise to Boost Economy

Donald Trump’s Immigration Plans May Stall His Promise to Boost Economy

WWICS   President-elect Donald Trump promises to increase the growth rate of America two times during his term in office. But, will he really be able to deliver on his promise?

What is more, Trump is not talking about boosting the economy on a temporary basis. His promise is to provide a long term increase in the economy of the country at the rate of 4% per year.

The growth rate of America at present is 2% and according to economists, the best way to do is to get more people working for the country and by making people who are already working more productive.

Tax cuts and government spending will stimulate the economy but only for a short period of time and may result in inflation.

However, bringing in more labor force to work for the economy is a challenge. In the first place, it means fighting the demographic tide.

According to Robert J. Gordon, an economist at the Northwestern University, most of the people from baby boom era will be retiring. At present, there is a shortage of workers in the construction industry and the like.
The only quick solution that is available is to bring in immigrants as workforce that will replace the retiring baby boomers.

The benefits from immigrant workforce are clearly evident if we take a look at the past two decades. Nearly half of the growth in the past twenty years has come from immigrant labor force.

But, Donald Trump who is preparing to deport millions of immigrants may affect the economy in a bad manner. It remains to be seen on what basis he will bring an annual growth of 4% when there are too few hands to work.

According to economists, the rhetoric from Donald Trump was very negative during the election campaign, but now that he has won the election and is in governing mode, he has to contemplate and analyze reality.
If Donald Trump wants to give a 4% annual growth rate than he will need more hands, and for that he will have to call more immigrants to the country.

Canada Makes Major Changes in Temporary Foreign Workers Program

Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) made changes in its temporary foreign workers program which will be effective immediately. As per the new rule, the four year cumulative duration rule will not be applicable any longer.

As per this rule, which is famously known as ‘four in, four out’, implies that some foreign workers lose their eligibility to work in Canada for 4 years after they complete four years of work in Canada.

Originally, this rule was implemented in April, 2011, by the previous Conservative government. During that time, the government implemented the rule with the thought that many workers lose ties with the country of their origin as they have to obtain Canada permanent residency.

However, the rule ran into controversy soon as it also affected employers, families and the communities along with the workers as they had established social and economic ties. Foreign workers, in many cases, were not able to become eligible to apply for Canada permanent residency. This meant that they had to leave the country after the completion of four years.

Preventing Instability and Hardship

On December 13, 2016, it was stated by IRCC that ‘four-in, four-out’ provision will be put to end with immediate effect. Its objective is to prevent unwanted instability and hardship for both the employers and workers.

IRCC also added that the work of government is not over yet, as it is further developing pathways to help eligible candidates become the permanent residents of Canada. The government is still making plans to fine tune this issue.

The four year rule has put considerable amount of instability and uncertainty on both employers and foreign workers in many ways. According the immigration minister, John McCallum, there was unnecessary pressure not only of employers and applicants but also on officer who process the application for permanent residency.

The four year rule will not be applicable on all foreign workers living in Canada. Exemptions apply on workers in professional (NOC A) and managerial (National Occupational Classification 0) positions, workers with provincial nomination certificate and workers in Canada under NAFTA.

Apply Early for US Visas: Immigration Officials Advise Indian Students

Aspiring students in India wishing to realize their study overseas dreams in the most favored destination country, the US, are being advised to apply for US visas at the earliest by the United States-India Educational Foundation and US immigration officials. The officials are of the belief that applying for visas early will give students enough time to prepare for their personal interview sessions.

Vice Consul of the Consulate General of the US, Jessica Pfleiderer stressed upon the need for aspiring students to come prepared well so as to clear the US visa interview.

"Applying early for US visa is the key to ensure a hassle free process for the students, who want to study in the United States," said Pfleiderer about the immigration process.

Adding to that she said for US Student visa applications, the period stretching between April and July is the peak season, which means those applying as early as possible will have more time to come prepared for their interviews, hence increasing their chances of getting US Student visa.

Emphasis is laid upon getting to know the interviewee better through the interview session rather than the information given in the documents of the applicant. This is why it is highly imperative that the applicants come all prepared for the interview.

Pfleiderer also warned student visa applicants to submit only real documents since presenting fake documents could make them permanently ineligible for a US visa, thus will be unable to immigrate to the US, ever.

Citing the recommendation made by the immigration officials, Lt. Col. B S Sandhu (Retd.), CMD of WWICS, the World’s Largest Immigration Group said, "Students aspiring to reach the US must apply for visas at the earliest so that they have enough time to prepare for the interview. It is their performance at the interview session which can make or break their chances of getting a visa.
