The Canadian province of British
Columbia (BC) wants to bring in more graduates and workers in the technology
sector to the province to meed the demand for talent.
The new Tech Pilot forms part of
the British Columbia Provincial Nominee Program (BC PNP) which is one of the
Provincial Nominee Programs (PNPs) of Canada. Through this pilot program,
candidates who are eligible and have a job offer in any of the 32 eligible
occupations can be invited to apply for a provincial nomination. This can then
be used in applying for permanent residency of Canada.
Invitation are issued in BC PNP
on a weekly basis to registrants who are qualified, whereas non-tech candidates
will be invited through other immigration programs.
Candidates who will be invited
through the Tech Pilot program will have the advantage of expedited processing
in the BC PNP.
The applicant must have a
full-time, indeterminate job offer and that too from an eligible employer in
BC. Under its registration system, the BC PNP offers individuals with different
categories, depending on work experience, job and level of education achieved.
Once a category has been
determined by a candidate, they can receive a registration score after
registering online for free.
The BC PNP will conduct a tech
draw every week to to invite registrants to apply who attained the
highest-score. Invited candidates have a period of 30 calendar days from this
point to submit their completed application form. The applicants are required
to submit a fee of $700.
it has been stated by BC that the
tech applications will be processed on a priority basis. A nomination will be
given to applications that are approved and the applicant can than apply for
permanent residence.
Nominated individuals who fulfill
the requirements of their nomination will get a work permit support letter
which will enable them to renew or obtain their current work permit and give
them permission to work throughout the process.
